Sorry to have been AWOL again for a bit. My son felt that it would be safer for him and Liam to evacuate Florida rather than sticking around to deal with Irma and her aftereffects. Of course, we told him they were most welcome to come stay with us in Maryland. That is a long way to drive with a little one without help though. So, I flew down to Orlando on Wednesday morning on a mostly empty flight. Brett and Liam picked me up and we went back to their place where we packed up and did what we could to secure things left behind. Brett, Liam, two not very happy cats, and I then hit the road.
We took US 17 north as far as we could before getting on I-95. Traffic was heavy on I-95, but was moving. We stopped late that night just outside Savannah, GA. The next day, we made it to Emporia, VA. We had hoped to get to Richmond, VA, but Brett and I were both getting tired as we both have bad colds and Liam had a couple of episodes of car sickness right before we stopped. We think the disruption in routine, getting stuck in a car seat for hours on end, and a slight stomach bug he was still getting over caused the issues. Once out of the car and cleaned up, he was happy as a clam exploring the hotel room along with the two cats who were also delighted to be out of the car.
We made it home about 1:30 p.m. yesterday. Liam has had a blast playing with Grandad and exploring Mimi and Grandad's house. We are so happy to have them here and safe from the storm. We are really glad we left when we did as we managed to stay just ahead of the heavy traffic jams and gas shortages. Just hope that our friends and family who decided to stay in Florida will all be safe.
I'm still holding my thrice-rescheduled Christmas Card Camp tomorrow afternoon (Sunday, September 10) between 2 and 6 p.m. I'm looking forward to seeing some of my stamping friends that I haven't gotten to see for awhile and know that they will all enjoy the chance to meet Liam!
