Today's card uses a lot of texture and some homemade rubber stamps. Yep, homemade stamps!
I recently received the Daydream Medallions Set. Because some of the stamps in this set are so big, there is a lot of excess rubber surrounding them. Rather than throw this wonderful rubber away, I made my own stamps from it using some of our Bigz Dies and extra wood blocks I had laying around.
Here are the stamps I was able to create:
The small solid circle and outlined circle were really easy. These were already cut out of the rubber when it arrived so that the centers of some of the large Daydream Medallions stamps would not get inky. I just popped the pieces out and adhered them to blocks.
The snowflake stamps were created using the new Snow Flurry Bigz Die on page 14 of the Holiday Catalog. I cut the larger snowflake out of one of the center circles that was already die cut when the Daydream Medallions Set arrived. I decided I might be able to use the negative image that was left behind after running the rubber circle through the Big Shot, so I mounted it too!
The two leaves and acorn stamps were cut using the new Autumn Accents Bigz Die on page 33 of the Holiday Catalog.

Directions
1) Use Craft & Rubber Scissors to cut excess rubber from the Daydream Medallions Set into manageable size pieces.
2) Build a sandwich of Standard Cutting Pad, Autumn Accents Bigz Die, excess rubber placed over the images you want to cut out with the rubber facing down, and the other Standard Cutting Pad. Run through Big Shot. I cut out the acorn and two smaller leaf images. You may have to place the rubber and run it through the Big Shot separately so that the rubber doesn't overlap.
3) Remove cut out rubber pieces and mount to appropriate block.
4) Cut a piece of Elegant Eggplant Card Stock to 5 1/2 x 8 1/2" using the Stampin' Trimmer.
5) Score the card stock along the 8 1/2" side at 4 1/4" using the Scoring Blade on the Stampin' Trimmer. Fold in half to make card.
6) Cut a piece of Old Olive Card Stock to 4 x 5 1/4".
7) Place the Old Olive rectangle inside the Houndstooth Embossing Folder.
8) Build a sandwich of Multipurpose Platform with Tab 2 open, one Standard Cutting Pad, embossing folder with card stock inside as outlined in step 7, and the other Standard Cutting Pad. Run through the Big Shot.
9) Cut a piece of Summer Starfruit Card Stock to 1 1/4 x 5 1/4".
10) Place the Summer Starfruit strip inside the Square Lattice Embossing Folder.
11) Build a sandwich of Multipurpose Platform with Tab 2 open, one Standard Cutting Pad, embossing folder with card stock inside as outlined in step 10, and the other Standard Cutting Pad. Run through the Big Shot.
12) Adhere the textured Summer Starfruit strip to the bottom of the textured Old Olive rectangle.
13) Cut a strip of Very Vanilla Card Stock to 1 1/2 x 5 1/4".
14) Ink up the acorn stamp you made with Summer Starfruit Ink. Press the inked up stamp onto the inside of the Square Lattice Embossing Folder to remove some of the ink and leave a pattern on the stamp. Breathe on the stamp and stamp randomly onto the Vanilla strip.
15) Repeat step 14 several times until you have several acorns stamped on the Vanilla strip.
16) Ink up the larger leaf stamp you made using Old Olive Ink. Press the inked up stamp onto the inside of the Houndstooth Embossing Folder to remove some of the ink and leave a pattern on the stamp. Breathe on the stamp and stamp randomly onto the Vanilla strip.
17) Repeat step 16 several times until you have several larger leaves stamped on the Vanilla strip. Allow the leaf images to overlap the acorns at times.
18) Ink up the skinny leaf stamp you made using Elegant Eggplant Ink. Stamp it randomly several times onto the Vanilla strip. Remember to reink the stamp each time. Allow the leaf image to overlap the other images at times.
19) Cut a piece of Elegant Eggplant Card Stock to 1 x 5 1/4".
20) Use the Scallop Edge Border Punch to punch one long edge of the Eggplant strip.
21) Adhere the stamped Vanilla strip to the punched Eggplant strip so the scallops peek out from the bottom.
22) Adhere the strips to the Old Olive/Summer Starfruit rectangle so that only about half an inch of the Summer Starfruit Card Stock shows.
23) Adhere a piece of Summer Starfruit 3/8" Stitched Satin Ribbon to the rectangle so it covers the seam between the Vanilla and Old Olive layers.
24) Adhere the rectangles to the front of the Elegant Eggplant card.
25) Cut a piece of Elegant Eggplant Card Stock to 3 1/2" square.
26) Build a sandwich of Standard Cutting Pad, Autumn Accents Bigz Die, Eggplant square placed over the maple leaf image, and the other Standard Cutting Pad. Run through Big Shot.
27) Place the leaf cut-out inside the Argyle Embossing Folder.
28) Build a sandwich of Multipurpose Platform with Tab 2 open, one Standard Cutting Pad, embossing folder with card stock inside as outlined in step 27, and the other Standard Cutting Pad. Run through the Big Shot.
29) Adhere the textured leaf to the left side of the card front.
30) Stamp the sentiment from the Itty Bitty Banners Set in Elegant Eggplant Ink onto a scrap of Old Olive Card Stock.
31) Build a sandwich of Multipurpose Platform completely closed , one Standard Cutting Pad, stamped Olive card stock strip with Bitty Banners Framelit placed on top (make sure the cutting edge is facing down), and the other Standard Cutting Pad. Run through the Big Shot.
32) Adhere the sentiment strip to the leaf so the left edge of the sentiment is near the stem of the leaf.
33) Cut a small piece of Summer Starfruit 3/8" Stitched Satin Ribbon from the roll using Craft Scissors.
34) Use the Craft Scissors to cut the piece of ribbon in half lengthwise.
35) Thread one half of the ribbon through the button holes and tie in a half knot on the top of the button.
36) Fray the ends of the ribbon by pulling on the cut edge.
37) Use the Craft Scissors to trim off the bound edge of the ribbon and trim the frayed ends down to size.
38) Use Glue Dots to adhere the button to the card front so it covers the stem of the leaf and the left edge of the sentiment.
Tips
Anytime you have large pieces of excess rubber around stamps you receive, don't throw it away. Use some of your Originals Dies, Bigz Dies, Bigz Clear Dies, Bigz L Dies, or Bigz XL Dies to cut the rubber and make your own homemade stamps.
You can make your own stamps using excess rubber from either Wood-Mount or Clear-Mount Sets. Just mount them on the appropriate blocks before use.
Make sure you use the Houndstooth and Square Lattice Embossing Folders to texturize the Old Olive and Summer Starfruit card stock pieces first! If you use them to add the texture to your stamped images first, then you'll have ink on your embossing folders which will transfer to the card stock and will leave a pattern.
Breathing onto an inked up stamp remoistens the ink so that you'll get a nice stamped image.
If you want to make a faster version of this card or don't have any excess rubber to cut into your own stamps, you could always use the Wonderfall Set on page 33 of the Holiday Catalog instead! The Wonderfall Set is available in Clear-Mount for $17.95 or in Wood-Mount for $24.95.
What a brilliant idea! Thank you so much for sharing that. Not only am I going to try that with the excess rubber, but I think I'm also going to try to emboss the rubber so it can have some kind of a design on it too.
I usually save the excess rubber to keep my stamps in place in the case especially for the very small stamps. Or sometimes I'll use the excess rubber for the foam. I'll throw out the rubber and use the foam as a dimensional. Now I have a another way to use the rubber.
