Smooth Sailing Recovery

Here's a card I made to wish a friend's husband smooth sailing as he recovers from hip replacement surgery.  Enjoy!

Victorian Birdcage

I had fun creating this Victorian looking birthday card.  The strip of designer paper is a piece of our awesome new Natural Composition Specialty Designer Series Paper that I rubbed some Midnight Muse Ink onto with a Sponge Dauber.  I then buffed off the ink that puddled on the raised, embossed images so the natural color of the paper would show through.  Pretty cool, huh?

I cut the prongs off the Antique Brad using my old Craft & Rubber Scissors and then adhered the brad top to the center of the button using a Stampin' Dimensional.  I love the layered antique look.

Please ignore the white at the bottom of this card.  It's my jumbo clothespin holding the card so I could get a picture of it.  The button and brad make it too bulky to scan.

Weekly Inspiration

The card I have for you today is a floating card.  That means the base card is actually a piece of Window Sheet cut to size and folded in half.  The images are then adhered to the Window Sheet so they appear to be floating in air.  It's a really fun card to make. 

Please ignore the white at the bottom of the card.  That's my jumbo clothespin holding the card so I could photograph it.  Sorry for the light reflections too, but there was no way to avoid them!

 Directions

1)  Cut a piece of Window Sheet to 5 1/2 x 8 1/2" using the Stampin' Trimmer.

2)  Score the Window Sheet along the 8 1/2" side at 4 1/4" using the Scoring Blade on the Stampin' Trimmer.  Fold in half to make card.  Use the Bone Folder to get a really sharp crease so that your card will stay folded.

3)  Use the Big Shot and smallest Labels Collection Framelit to cut 4 shapes from scraps of Whisper White Card Stock.  The correct sandwich is the Multipurpose Platform completely closed , one Standard Cutting Pad, card stock with Framelit on top, and the other Standard Cutting Pad.

4)  Use the Big Shot and second smallest Labels Collection Framelit to cut 4 shapes from scraps of Whisper White Card Stock using the same sandwich outlined in step 3.

5)  Place one of each size shape inside the Fancy Fan Folder.

6)  Build a sandwich of Multipurpose Platform with Tab 2 open, one Standard Cutting Pad, embossing folder with card stock inside as outlined in step 5, and the other Standard Cutting Pad.  Run through the Big Shot.

7)  Stamp sentiment on one of the small, unembossed label shapes using the Real Red Ink Pad.

8)  Shake the bottle of Frost White Shimmer Paint really well.  Remove the cap.

9)  Press a clean Sponge Dauber into the Shimmer Paint cap to pick up some of the ink.

10)  Rub the Shimmer Paint all over the two embossed labels shapes.  Get more ink on the Sponge Dauber as needed by pressing it into the cap after shaking the bottle again.

11)  Use a clean Sponge Dauber to sponge Bashful Blue Ink all around the edges of all the shapes.

12)  Adhere the two embossed shapes to the front of the Window Sheet card using SNAIL.

13)  Open the card up and adhere two of the plain shapes to the inside of the card front so that they are lined up with the shapes on the outside of the card.  This hides the adhesive.

14)  Adhere the small shape stamped with the sentiment to the inside of the card on the sentiment side so that the shape is just a little offset from the shape on the front of the card.  It should look like one cloud is behind another when the card is closed and you should not be able to see the sentiment.

15)  Adhere one of the plain large shapes to the inside of the card on the sentiment side so that the shape is just a little offset from the shape on the front of the card.  This gives you a place to write a note and sign your name.

16)  Adhere the remaining two plain shapes to the back of the card so that they are lined up with the shapes on the inside sentiment portion of the card.  This hides the adhesive.

17)  Ink up the blimp image using the Markers.  I used the Real Red, Marina Mist, and Summer Starfruit Markers.

18)  Stamp the blimp image onto a scrap of Whisper White Card Stock that is blank on both sides.

19)  Cut out the blimp using Paper Snips.

20)  Turn the image over and use the Summer Starfruit Marker to color the area on the cutout where the propeller, basket, and back fins would be.

21)  Clean the blimp stamp.

22)  Ink up the blimp image with the Real Red Ink Pad.

23)  Stamp the image onto a scrap of Whisper White Card Stock.

24)  Carefully cut out the center area of the blimp.

25)  Adhere the full blimp image to the front of the card using SNAIL.  Try to position it so that the basket under the blimp and the front of the blimp are on top of one of your cloud shapes.

26)  Adhere the cut out center of the blimp to the inside of the card front so that it is lined up with the center of the blimp on the outside of the card.  This hides the adhesive.  The front of the blimp with the scallop design will have to be at the back of the blimp on the inside so that the pennants are hanging down.

Tips

Some people like to have enough Sponge Daubers to have one dedicated to each ink color and Shimmer Paint color.  I just rinse mine under running water in the sink and let them air dry.  They may be stained, but they are still clean enough to use!

I have cut the sentiments and the images in my Moving Forward Set apart so that it is easier to mix and match the sentiments and images.  If you want to cut your images apart, you'll want a pair of our Craft & Rubber Scissors (page 180, $19.95).

Walk In Wednesday

Time for another Walk In Wednesday!  This is a day when you can stop by and pick up orders, place orders, pay for orders, shop retired merchandise (when it is out), look at displays, ask questions, get help with products, sign up for upcoming events, and stamp a couple of quick and easy projects.  It works just like my Take It Tuesdays from the past, but is on Wednesday instead.

Today's card is a little different from what I usually do!  It uses Whisper White Card Stock for the base and the two dry embossed panels are popped up on Stampin' Dimensionals instead of laying flat.  Enjoy!

Frosted Filter Christmas

A bleached coffee filter would also work, but I only have the unbleached ones in the house since they are better for the environment and for us!  A bleached coffee filter might give brighter colors as well, but for this card, I liked the earth-tone better anyway. 

You might want to wear gloves when doing this technique as it is very, very messy!

Pastel Porcelain Teacup

Directions

1)  Ink (or reink) White StazOn In Pad as needed.  Allow time for ink to absorb into the pad.

2)  Cut a piece of Window Sheet to 2 x 3 1/4".

3)  Stamp outlined daisy on stem image from the Reason to Smile Set onto Window Sheet using White StazOn Ink.  Set aside and allow image to dry thoroughly.

4)  When the image is dry, flip the Window Sheet over so the stamped image is facing down.

5)  Squeeze a squiggly line of Crystal Effects down the middle of the Window Sheet.

6)  Add about 4 drops of Daffodil Delight Ink Refill to the line of Crystal Effects.

7)  Add 1 drop of Pumpkin Pie Ink Refill off to the side of the Window Sheet.

8)  Put on a glove to protect your fingers from the ink and Crystal Effects.

9)  Spread the Crystal Effects around so the inks blend and swirl together.  You can swirl the Crystal Effects with your finger or tap it with your finger.  Be sure to cover the entire back side of the Window Sheet.

10)  Place a slightly larger piece of white tissue paper over the image and press it into the Crystal Effects.  You want it to wrinkle a little.  Be careful not to tear the tissue paper.

11)  Set the image aside and allow it to dry thoroughly.

12)  Cut a piece of Daffodil Delight Card Stock to 5 1/2 x 8 1/2" using the Stampin' Trimmer.

13)  Score the card stock along the 8 1/2" side at 4 1/4" using the Scoring Blade on the Stampin' Trimmer.  Fold in half to make card.

14)  Cut a piece of Pumpkin Pie Card Stock to 4 x 5 1/4".

15)  Cut a piece of Daffodil Delight Card Stock to 3 7/8 x 5 1/8".

16)  Randomly stamp the outlined circle daisy image from the Reason to Smile Set all over the small Daffodil Delight layer using Daffodil Delight Ink.  Clean the stamp.

17)  Stamp sentiment from Petite Pairs Set in Pumpkin Pie Ink just to the left and slightly above center.

18)  Cut a strip of Pumpkin Pie Card Stock to 1 x 5 1/8".

19)  Punch the strip along one long edge using the Dotted Scallop Ribbon Border Punch.

20)  Adhere the punched strip to the stamped Daffodil Delight layer just under the sentiment.

21)  Adhere the stamped Daffodil Delight layer to the Pumpkin Pie layer.

22)  Cut a piece of Whisper White Card Stock to 2 x 3 1/4".

23)  Randomly stamp the outlined circle daisy image from the Reason to Smile Set all over the white rectangle using Early Espresso Ink.  Allow the images to overlap a little.

24)  If your Window Sheet piece is dry, then trim off the excess tissue paper.

25)  Adhere the Window Sheet to the stamped white rectangle using SNAIL.  Make sure the tissue paper side is down.

26)  Cut a piece of Pumpkin Pie Card Stock to 2 1/8 x 3 3/8".

27)  Adhere the Window Sheet rectangle to the Pumpkin Pie rectangle.

28)  Adhere the Window Sheet rectangle to the right side of the Daffodil Delight layer.

29)  Adhere a piece of Daffodil Delight 1/4" Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon to the layers so it is centered over the Dotted Scallop Ribbon punched strip.

30)  Adhere the rectangles to the front of the Daffodil Delight card.

31)  Tie a small piece of ribbon to the first piece and trim ends.  Center the knotted bow over the stem on the white flower image.

Tips

The White StazOn Ink Pad is sold with the ink refill and will need to be inked up the first time you use it.  You will probably need to reink the pad each time you use it as the ink dries up quickly.

Be careful not to shake the Crystal Effects bottle too much or you will get bubbles in the glue.

You will have to cut the tip off the nozzle of the Crystal Effects bottle the first time you use it.

I keep an unbent, large paper clip attached to my bottle of Crystal Effects with a rubber band so that I can poke a hole in the tip off the nozzle each time I use the Crystal Effects.  The nozzle tends to fill with Crystal Effects and dry up so that it is clogged.

I like to keep some scissors just for cutting Sticky Strip.  That way I don't get my good scissors all gummed up and dull.
