Directions
1) Cut a piece of Old Olive Card Stock to 5 1/2 x 8 1/2". Score and fold in half to make card.
2) Cut a piece of Night of Navy Card Stock to 4 x 5 1/4".
3) Ink up leaf image with Night of Navy Ink and stamp repeatedly along right side and right bottom corner. Remember to reink the stamp each time. Allow the images to overlap a bit.
4) Cut a piece of Old Olive Card Stock to 3 1/4 x 3 1/2".
5) Ink up the block image with Night of Navy Ink and stamp in the center of the olive rectangle.
6) Use the distressing tool on the Cutter Kit to distress all four sides of the stamped olive rectangle.
7) Adhere the stamped, distressed olive rectangle to the center of the navy rectangle.
8) Adhere the rectangles to the card front.
9) Ink up the sentiment with Night of Navy Ink and stamp onto a scrap of Old Olive Card Stock.
10) Punch out the sentiment with the Large Oval Punch.
11) Use the side of the brush tip of the Night of Navy Marker to outline the edges of the oval.
12) Adhere the oval to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals so it overlaps the left side of the large oval rectangle at the bottom.
13) Use the Circle Punches to punch circles from a scrap of card stock. Throw the punched out circles away.
14) Place the punched piece of scrap card stock onto the back of a sheet of Sticky Pages. Use the pencil to trace the circles.
15) Carefully cut out the circles from the Sticky Pages.
16) Cut a piece of Daffodil Delight 5/8" Satin Ribbon about 34" long.
17) Fold the ribbon in thirds and lay it on top of the Tasteful Trim Bigz XL Die over the scallop edge cutting surface at the top. Make sure the folded edge of the ribbon is inside the cutting edge on both ends or you will cut your ribbon in half. Make sure the scallop edges are completely covered by the ribbon so that a little of the ribbon will be cut off above the scallops.
18) Build a sandwich of one Extended Cutting Pad, Tasteful Trim Bigz XL Die with folded ribbon placed as described in step 16, and the other Extended Cutting Pad. Run through the Big Shot.
19) Place your scalloped ribbon piece on an aluminum tray (or some other heat proof surface to protect your work surface) and hold the ribbon still with the end of the wood dowel (or other heat proof item to secure the ribbon in place without burning your fingers).
20) Holding the nozzle of the Heat Tool as close as you can to the scalloped edge of the ribbon without actually touching the ribbon, heat the ribbon until it begins to melt. As it melts, it will begin to curl and shrivel up. Continue melting the entire scalloped edge of the ribbon by moving the dowel as needed to hold the ribbon in place and heating the edges with the Heat Tool. Be careful, your work surfaces will get hot! This does take a little time as the Heat Tool, work surfaces, and ribbon all heat up. Once the melting process begins though, it goes pretty quickly.
21) Peel the protective red layer off of the bigger Sticky Pages circle.
22) Starting on the outside edge of the circle, press one end of the melted ribbon (flat edge towards the center) onto the circle. Begin coiling the ribbon around the circle, pleating and pressing it into place as you go. When you get back to the beginning, pull the ribbon in a bit and continue coiling. When you get to the center of the circle, cut off any excess ribbon.
23) Repeat steps 21 and 22 with the smaller Sticky Pages circle and the rest of the ribbon.
24) Poke holes in the centers of the ribbon flowers with the Paper-Piercing Tool and Mat Pack pieces.
25) Insert Antique Brads and secure on the back side.
26) Peel the protective backings off the Sticky Pages centers of your ribbon flowers and press them in place on your card front.
Tips
You can use any of the notchs on the distressing tool on the Cutter Kit. Just slide the edge of your card stock into a notch and then pull the distressing tool across the edge. Go back and forth with the distressing tool. The harder you press, the more the card stock will distress.
When using the side of the brush tip of a Marker to outline card stock, take your time. If you go too fast, the Marker can slip and add unwanted lines to your card stock.
Do NOT try to punch the circles from the Sticky Pages. The adhesive will gum up your punches.
I have some scissors that are only used to cut adhesives like Sticky Pages and Sticky Strip because some adhesive often accumulates on the blades. This keeps my good scissors sharp for use on card stock, ribbon, etc.
An easy way to clean excess adhesive off of scissor blades is to soak a cotton ball in rubbing alcohol and rub it across the blades until the adhesive is removed.
Our Craft & Paper Scissors (page 199, $29.95) are absolutely awesome for cutting fabric and ribbon. I use mine for fabric and ribbon only to make sure they stay sharp. To remind myself that they are for ribbon and fabric only, I've tied a piece of ribbon to one of the handles.
If your ribbon has some loose threads or areas where it did not cut through cleanly, just trim them off with your scissors. When the ribbon is melted, these little imperfections will be hidden.
You may get a "double-scallop" in your ribbon where it was folded in half. When you coil the melted ribbon to make the flower, this little imperfection will be hidden.
If you don't have a Big Shot or the Tasteful Trim Bigz XL Die, you can still make Melted Ribbon Flowers. Just hand-cut the ribbon in a scallop fashion before melting it. This just takes a little longer, a steady hand, and good sharp scissors (see my note above about our Craft & Paper Scissors!).
Some other ribbons can also be melted to make Melted Ribbon Flowers. Try using grosgrain or taffeta ribbons. Organza, organdy, and seam binding ribbons do not work well as they melt too much!
5/8" Satin Ribbons in the following colors are retiring - Daffodil Delight, Pumpkin Pie, Rich Razzleberry, Night of Navy, Marina Mist, and Early Espresso.
