My youngest "baby" is 18 today! He has always enjoyed soccer, so I decided to make his birthday card using two of the Sets I recently got for FREE during Sale-A-Bration - Just Soccer and Starring You. It also uses the "faux leather" technique to make the huge soccer ball. Enjoy!

1) Cut a piece of Brilliant Blue Card Stock to 5 1/2 x 8 1/2". Score and fold in half to make card.
2) Cut a piece of Confetti White Card Stock to 4 x 5 1/4". Adhere it to the front of the card.
3) Cut a piece of Brilliant Blue Card Stock to 3 1/2 x 4 3/4".
4) Randomly stamp set of 3 stars image from Starring You Set all over the Brilliant Blue rectangle using Brilliant Blue Ink. Remember to re-ink the stamp each time.
5) Randomly stamp the "goal" word from the Just Soccer Set all over the Brilliant Blue rectangle using Basic Black Ink. Do not re-ink the stamp each time so you get different shades of black.
6) Use the Paper-Piercing Tool and Mat Pack pieces to poke a hole in the upper right corner of the stamped blue rectangle.
7) Insert a small Star Designer Brad and secure on the back.
8) Stamp the soccer shoe image from the Just Soccer Set in Basic Black Ink onto a scrap of Confetti White Card Stock.
9) Cut out the shoe image and adhere it at a slight angle in the lower right hand corner.
10) Put some Dotto on the back of a large piece of Confetti White Card Stock. Press the card stock firmly onto the Glass Mat.
11) Set the size guide on the Circle Scissor Plus to 3 1/2". Place the Circle Scissor Plus on top of the card stock on the Glass Mat so that you have plenty of room to cut out the circle. Insert the cutting blade and rotate it while gently pressing down to cut your circle.
12) Gently rub off any remaining Dotto on the back of your circle with your fingers.
13) Press the VersaMark Pad onto the top of the circle all over it so that you completely cover the circle.
14) Cover the circle in Clear Embossing Powder and tap off excess which you can return to the container.
15) Use the tip of the Bone Folder to draw the soccer ball pattern in the embossing powder on the circle. If you need a reference, look at the soccer ball image in the Just Soccer Set, but don't worry about making it perfect!
16) Tap off excess embossing powder into the trash. Do NOT reuse as it is saturated in VersaMark Ink and will not work properly.
17) Heat the circle image until the embossing powder is completely melted.
18) Rub Basic Black Ink all over the top of the embossed circle with a Stamping Sponge. Wipe off excess ink with a clean tissue or paper towel. The lines you drew in the embossing powder should be stained gray so that you can see them better. The entire ball may be a little gray, but that's okay, it just looks like a well used soccer ball!
19) Put adhesive all over the back of the circle and adhere it to the card front so it overlaps the left edge of the blue rectangle just a bit. Use lots of adhesive so that your ball will stay flat, otherwise it might curl up at the edges because of the heat embossing.
20) Stamp the birthday star image from the Starring You Set in Brilliant Blue Ink onto a scrap of Confetti White Card Stock and a scrap of Brilliant Blue Card Stock.
21) Use the 1 1/4" Circle Punch to punch out the center star on the blue scrap.
22) Use the 1 3/8" Circle Punch to punch out the entire image on the white scrap.
23) Adhere the blue circle to the center of the white circle and then to the center of the soccer ball.
24) Use Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere the decorated blue rectangle to the card front.
Dotto is a repositionable adhesive. It's perfect to use with the Circle Scissor Plus as it helps hold your card stock in place on the Glass Mat while cutting. Just rub the adhesive back off with your fingers when you are done. This is also great for scrapbooking with as it will hold an item in place while you finish your design. Once you've decided where to place all your elements, you can remove the Dotto and adhere them more securely with another adhesive.
You can use the "faux leather" technique for lots of projects. Make "leather" wallets for holding business cards or pictures. Use "faux leather" for masculine cards featuring animals, sports equipment, cars, etc.
