Yet More One Layout and Color Scheme Ideas

Here are some more cards that are samples in another of my "Class in the Mail Kits" for my downline who sold a set amount one month.  I have so many ladies in my group earning these now that I can't give them all exactly the same Kits anymore!  These samples all feature a fun layout idea I learned at my upline's recently.  Punch one edge of card stock about 5/8" down from the top using a Border Punch.  Then, cut a slit in the center of your card stock starting about 5/8" from the top.  Slide a piece of Designer Series Paper into the slit created by the punch and then back up through the slit you cut.  Stamp a main image and mat it and then adhere it so it hides the slit cut in the card stock.  Enjoy!

My Class in the Mail Kits are only for members of my downline who earn them.  I do not create these kits to sell to anyone else.  My Kits also contain consumable items only, no inks, no punches, no stamp sets, etc.  Just card stock, ribbon, buttons, brads, things of that nature.  I do not include stamped images because that is against Stampin' Up! policy.  I do provide my downline with several samples and a list of the supplies they will need to provide including suggested stamp sets.

One Layout and Color Scheme Ideas

Each month that members of my downline sell a set amount, they earn a "Class in the Mail Kit" from me.  They get all the consumable supplies they need to make 8 cards at an upcoming event of their own.  I also send them several samples so they can use the Sets they have available.

June Club Contest Winners

During June, I challenged my Club Members to create a card using anything that rolled - a Wheel, a Brayer, or a Crimper.

Presto Magic Class Follow Up

I held my Presto Magic Class last night.  Everyone who attended got their own package of the gorgeous Presto Patterns Specialty Designer Series Paper.  We used some of the paper on the cards we made and they got to take the rest home so they can make their own creations. 

The first card we made uses the simple technique of brayering over the Designer Paper with ink to reveal the white patterns embossed in the paper.

For the next card, we added color to the Designer Paper by rubbing a Stampin' Spot on it, spritzing it with the Color Spritzer, and stamping directly on it.

We altered the Designer Paper for this next card by rubbing in some color with Sponge Daubers.  We also rubbed in a little shimmery color by pouring some Gold Glow Smooch Spritz into a container and picking it up with a Sponge Dauber.

The next card used a Stamping Sponge to add color to the Designer Paper.  We wet the sponge a bit with an Aqua Painter to make the color spread out faster.  We also add Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz to the whole card front, but it doesn't scan well.  It's really shimmery in person though!

The last card uses a fun watercolor technique to color the Designer Paper.  We sprayed the paper with water and then dabbed on ink with an Aqua Painter.  After drying the paper off by blotting it with clean paper towels, we added a little more color as needed with the Aqua Painter.  I think it made a beautiful impressionistic background!  It didn't scan as pretty as it really is though thanks to the light colors.

Weekly Inspiration

Directions

1)  Cut a piece of Basic Gray Card Stock to 5 1/2 x 8 1/2".  Score and fold in half to make card.

2)  Cut a piece of Basic Black Card Stock to 4 x 5 1/4".

3)  Ink up Fine Flourish Stamp with Silver Ink.  Stamp along bottom half of black rectangle.  Reink and stamp the other half of the bottom of the rectangle.  Try to line the edges of the images up as close as you can without overlapping.

4)  Adhere a piece of Basic Gray Satin Ribbon to the back of the rectangle so it is the left side of the rectangle when face up and centered over the top of the stamped flourish images.  Do NOT adhere the right side of the ribbon. 

5)  Adhere the black rectangle to the card front and then set aside for a bit.

6)  Cut a piece of Whisper White Card Stock to 2 3/4 x 3 3/4". 

7)  Ink up the leaf swirl image from the Vintage Vogue Set with Silver Ink and stamp randomly all over the white rectangle.  Remember to reink each time.

8)  Cut a piece of Brushed Silver Card Stock to 3 x 4".

9)  Adhere the stamped white rectangle to the silver rectangle.

10)  Stamp the sentiment from the Teeny Tiny Wishes Set in Basic Black Ink onto a scrap of Basic Gray Card Stock.

11)  Punch the sentiment out with the Modern Label Punch so that the sentiment is aligned towards the bottom of the punch.

12)  Adhere the sentiment to the bottom right corner of the matted rectangles.

13)  Use the Hobby Blade and hard mat from the Mat Pack to cut a line 1" long in the matted rectangles on the right side.  The line should start about 5/8" from the top of the matted rectangles and be about 1/2" from the right side.

14)  Thread the right end of the ribbon on the card front through the slit in the matted rectangles.

15)  Put Stampin' Dimensionals on the back of the matted piece and adhere it to the card front.

16)  Pull the ribbon tight and pinch the sides together so the folded valley is down.

17)  Use scissors to cut the ends of the ribbon at a sharp angle with the tips of the scissors pointing in to the center of the card.  Allow the ribbon to unfold revealing a notched cut in the end of the ribbon.

18)  Ink up the Fine Flourish Stamp with Silver Ink again.

19)  Press the clean Butterfly Accent Stamp to the inked up flourish and give it a slight twist (about 1/4" to 1/2" turn).

20)  Stamp the inked up butterfly onto a scrap of Basic Gray Card Stock.

21)  Clean the butterfly stamp.

22)  Repeat steps 18 and 19.

23)  Stamp the inked up butterfly onto a scrap of Whisper White Card Stock.

24)  Cut out both butterfly images.

25)  Layer the white butterfly on top of the gray one so just a bit of the gray one peaks out around the right edges.

26)  Put the layered butterflies on top of the Mat Pack pieces and poke a hole in the center with the Paper-Piercing Tool.

27)  Insert a large Clear Rhinestone Brad and secure on the back side of the butterflies.

28)  Put two small pieces of Stampin' Dimensionals on either side of the center of the butterfly backs and adhere to the card front so the wings cover the slit in the matted images.

Tips

If you have trouble lining stamps up, you can use the Stamp-a-ma-jig sold on page 191 for $11.95.

The Encore! Inks (Silver and Gold) take a long time to dry.  If they are still wet when you handle them, they will smear.  So, allow plenty of time to allow them to dry.  If you want to speed up the drying process, you can heat the image with the Heat Tool sold on page 188 for $29.95.

Be careful when adhering images stamped with the Encore! Inks.  If they are not completely dry they will smear.  I usually lightly adhere the image to the card stock and then turn the card stock over and rub more firmly across the back side of the unstamped card stock.

It is almost always easier to stamp images and sentiments onto scrap paper first and then punch them out.  That way you can easily line the image or sentiment up inside the punch to make sure it is centered and straight.

You can use a ruler to help you cut the straight line in your card stock with the Hobby Blade if you want.  Be sure to use the hard piece from the Mat Pack or you will cut a line in your work surface.

Our Craft & Paper Scissors sold on page 191 for $29.95 are the best for cutting for ribbon!  I have a pair that I've tied a piece of ribbon too so that I and my customers remember that they are only for cutting ribbon!

When doing "kissing techniques," you need to clean stamps between each kiss.  Otherwise the inks will muddy the image and you'll cross-contaminate your Ink Pads with other ink colors.

Our Stampin' Mist and Stampin' Scrub are the best way to clean your stamps.  The Mist not only cleans, but also conditions the rubber so it won't get dry and brittle.

Use the thin edge pieces on the sheets of Stampin' Dimensionals to adhere small objects to your projects.  Just cut them apart with scissors.

The Butterfly Accent Stamp was designed with "kissing techniques" in mind.  Try kissing it to other outline images like the A to Z, Solid Stripes, or Dot, Dot, Dot single image stamps in the Occasions Mini or some of our background stamps.

 

Border Punch Flowers

The other fun flowers from punches that I demonstrated yesterday at my upline's big Team Meeting were Border Punch Flowers.  Here are basic directions for these cool flowers:

1)    Cut a strip of Designer Paper or Card Stock that is 1” wide by 12” long.

2)    Punch one long edge of the strip with the Border Punch.

3)    Run the punched strip through the Crimper multiple times to break down the fibers and soften it so it is easier to work with.

4)    Cut a 1 ¼” Circle from Sticky Pages by   punching a scrap of card stock with the 1 ¼” Circle Punch and trace the circle onto the back side of the Sticky Pages and cut it out by hand.  The circle doesn’t have to be completely round and perfect as it is getting covered by the flower.

5)    Remove the protective red covering from the front of the circle.

6)    Lay one end of the punched, crimped strip on the sticky circle so it overlaps the circle about ½ way.

7)    Start pleating the crimped strip as you bend it around the circle.  Press the flat edges against the sticky circle.

8)    When you get back to where you started, pull the strip in a little and continue pleating and pressing the flat edge into the center of the sticky circle as you go around.

9)   Use the Paper-Piercing Tool to poke a hole in the center of the flower and insert a large brad of some sort to hold things in place and hide the center.

10) Peel the protective paper backing off the back of the flower and adhere to your project.

-  Try using different widths and lenghths of strips to make different sized flowers.

-  Try using different sizes of circles to make different sized flowers. 

-  You can also cut circles from Sticky Pages using some of our Dies for the Big Shot or using the Circle Scissors Plus.

-  Some people say you can punch things out of our Sticky Pages with our punches, but I don't recommend this.  Every time I've tried, I just gummed up my punch!

-  If you don’t have Sticky Pages, you can just cut a circle from regular card stock and cover it completely with strips of Sticky Strip instead.

-  The tighter you pleat as you go around the circle, the smaller your flower will be.

-  Try using several strips of punched, crimped paper to make really large flowers by starting another strip where one ends as you go around in a circle.

-  Try using regular card stock that you have punched and crimped and sponged the edges of with a darker ink.  Just crimp a few more times to make sure the card stock is really pliable.

-  Try layering flowers on top of each other.

-  Try using a Button in place of a brad in the center of the flower.  Just adhere it with Glue Dots or Stampin’ Dimensionals.

-  Try putting a stamped image punched out of a piece of card stock in the center of the flower.  Just adhere it with Stampin’ Dimensionals.

- Try using a different border punch, all of the Border Punches we sell work really well!

Weekly Inspiration

I made my own version of a product called "Twinkling H2O's" to use on this card using all Stampin' Up! materials.  It's really quite shimmery in person, but the shine doesn't show well in the scan.

I think I'll be sending this card to my mom or my mother-in-law for Mother's Day, but it would also work for a birthday card or a thinking of you card.  Enjoy!

Directions

1)  Cut a piece of Watercolor Paper to 1 1/2 x 4" and another piece to 3 x 3 1/2".

2)  Pour a couple of drops of Frost White Shimmer Paint into one of the containers.  Add a drop of Apricot Appeal Classic Ink Refill.  Use an Aqua Painter to squeeze in some water and mix everything together.

3)  Use the other Aqua Painter to squeeze some water onto one piece of Watercolor Paper and spread it around until the paper is completely damp.

4)  Paint the Apricot shimmer mixture onto the damp piece of Watercolor Paper.

5)  Repeat steps 3 and 4 with the other piece of Watercolor Paper.

6)  Clean the Aqua Painter off by swiping the brush across your work surface paper until no color is coming off.

7)  Pour a couple of drops of Frost White Shimmer Paint into another container.  Add a drop of Cameo Coral Classic Ink Refill.  Use an Aqua Painter to squeeze in some water and mix everything together.

8)  Paint the Coral shimmer mixture onto the Watercolor Paper pieces along the edges, blending the Coral color into the Apricot.

9)  Paint the Coral shimmer mixture directly onto the large flower image from the Vintage Vogue Set using an Aqua Painter.

10)  Stamp the flower image onto the Watercolor Paper.

11)  Repeat steps 9 and 10 until you have as many large flowers stamped on the Watercolor Paper pieces as you want.

12)  Stamp one more large flower in Coral shimmer mixture onto a scrap of Watercolor Paper.

13)  Add touches of Apricot shimmer mixture to the stamped flower image with an Aqua Painter and blend them in with the Coral shimmer mixture.

14)  Paint the Apricot shimmer mixture directly onto the small flower image from the Vintage Vogue Set using an Aqua Painter.

15)  Stamp the flower image onto the Watercolor Paper.

16)  Repeat steps 14 and 15 until you have as many small flowers stamped on the Watercolor Paper pieces as you want.

17)  Stamp three more small flowers in Apricot shimmer mixture onto scraps of Watercolor Paper.

18)  Add touches of Coral shimmer mixture to the edges of the stamped small flowers with an Aqua Painter and blend into the Apricot shimmer mixture.

19)  Cut a piece of Cameo Coral Card Stock to 4 x 5 1/4".

20)  Slide the Cameo Coral rectangle into the Elegant Bouquet Embossing Folder.

21)  Build a sandwich of Multipurpose Platform open to Tab 1, Standard Cutting Pad, Embossing Folder with card stock inside, and Standard Cutting Pad.

22)  Run the sandwich through the Big Shot.

23)  Remove the embossed card stock and use an Aqua Painter to paint small dots of Apricot shimmer mixture in the center of each of the embossed flowers.

24)  Cut a piece of Apricot Appeal Card Stock to 5 1/2 x 8 1/2".  Score and fold in half to make card.

25)  Once the Cameo Coral card stock is dry, adhere it to the card front.

26)  Cut a piece of Close to Cocoa Card Stock to 2 x 4".

27)  Punch one long edge of the cocoa strip with the Scallop Trim Border Punch.

28)  Adhere the painted strip of Watercolor Paper to the punched cocoa strip and then to the card front on the left side.

29)  Once the large rectangle of Watercolor Paper is dry, stamp the sentiment from the Well Scripted Set in the lower right hand corner using Basic Brown Classic Ink.

30)  Cut a piece of Close to Cocoa Card Stock to 3 1/8 x 3 5/8".

31)  Adhere the painted, stamped piece of Watercolor Paper to the cocoa rectangle.

32)  Punch one corner of a scrap of Close to Cocoa Card Stock with the Scallop Trim Corner Punch.  Trim off the ends.

33)  Adhere the punched corner piece to the back side of the mounted rectangle in the lower right corner.

34)  Cut out the three extra small flowers stamped on the scraps of Watercolor Paper.

35)  Adhere the three small flowers in the upper left corner of the main image.

36)  Use the Paper-Piercing Tool and Mat Pack to poke holes in the centers of the small flowers and insert small yellow Circle Fire Rhinestone Brads.  Secure on the back side.

37)  Adhere the main image to the card front with Stampin' Dimensionals.

38)  Cut out the extra large flower image stamped on a scrap of Watercolor Paper.

39)  Use the Paper-Piercing Tool and Mat Pack to poke a hole in the center of the flower and insert a large yellow Circle Fire Rhinestone Brad.  Secure on the back side.

40)  Adhere the large flower to the upper left corner of the main image with small pieces of Stampin' Dimensionals.

Tips

The Shimmer Paints were first sold on page 27 of the Holiday Mini Catalog.  They are still available as write-in items and will be available in the new big catalog coming out this summer.

You can make custom Shimmer Paints in any of our exclusive Stampin' Up! colors just by adding a drop of refill to the Frost White Shimmer Paint.

If your paints dry out, you can just add another drop of water and mix it in again.

Save your old containers from Brads, Buttons, Eyelets, etc.  They are great for mixing together small amounts of specialty paints like the shimmer paints in this post.

Cards from Lynn's Workshop

Directions

1)  Cut a piece of Rich Razzleberry Card Stock to 5 1/2 x 8 1/2".  Score and fold in half to make card.

2)  Cut a piece of Whisper White Card Stock to 4 x 5 1/4".

3)  Cut a piece of Orchid Opulence Card Stock to 3 7/8 x 5 1/8".

4)  Cut the bottom right corner of a Flower Fantasy Printed Window Sheet to 3 7/8 x 5 1/8".

5)  Cut a piece of Whisper White Card Stock to 1 3/4 x 2".

6)  Ink up the "F" stamp from the Vintage Vogue Set using the Rich Razzleberry Marker on the "F" and the Orchid Opulence Marker on the "friends."

7)  Huff on the stamp to moisten the ink and stamp onto the small white rectangle.

8)  Cut a piece of Rich Razzleberry Card Stock to 2 x 2 1/2".

9)  Punch one of the short ends with the Scallop Trim Border Punch.

10)  Adhere the stamped white rectangle to the punched razzleberry rectangle.

11)  Ink up the small flower image from the Vintage Vogue Set using the Orchid Opulence Ink Pad and stamp onto a scrap of Whisper White Card Stock. 

12)  Lift the stamp slightly and rotate a little and stamp again.

13)  Cut out the stamped flower image.

14)  Adhere the flower image to the upper left corner of the main image.

15)  Pry open the prongs on a medium green Circle Ice Rhinestone Brad and use the Paper-Piercing Tool to pry up the small prongs holding the jewel in place.  Pop out the jewel.

16)  Adhere the jewel to the center of the flower with a Mini Glue Dot.

17)  Cut a short strip of Old Olive Satin Ribbon and double it over.

18)  Adhere the doubled ribbon to the back of the main image by placing a piece of Sticky Strip across the ribbon ends.  Do not remove the protective backing from the Sticky Strip.

19)  Adhere the main image to the center of the Flower Fantasy Window Sheet about 3/8" from the top using Stampin' Dimensionals.

20)  Put adhesive on the back side of the window sheet where it is hidden by the main image and adhere the window sheet to the Orchid Opulence rectangle.

21)  Adhere the Orchid Opulence rectangle to the large white rectangle.

22)  Adhere the card front to the card.

Tips

When you use markers to color directly onto the rubber of an image, it's a good idea to huff (blow) onto the rubber before stamping to make sure the ink is moist.  The moisture in your breath will remoisten the ink.  Just be careful not to touch the inked surface with your lips or tongue.  Ink does NOT taste good!

The Scallop Trim Border Punch is available for FREE right now as a Sale-A-Bration item with qualifying orders.  This Punch coordinates with the Scallop Trim Corner Punch for sale on page 11 of the Occasions Mini and will be available again for purchase when the new big catalog is released this summer.

You could poke a hole in the center of the flower to insert the Rhinestone Brad if you prefer.  However, it can be difficult to get the prongs of the brads to go through the satin ribbon.  If you pop the jewel out of the brad, it will also be less bulky for mailing.

When you use Window Sheets, always try to hide the adhesive holding them to the card under some ribbon or card stock.  Otherwise, the adhesive shows through.

You might want to have a clean tissue handy to buff off the window sheet when you are finished to remove any fingerprints.
