Sadly, one of our Scout families lost their grandfather to cancer the other day. I made this sympathy card to send them using a new technique I learned at Regionals in Baltimore the other day. The technique is called Emboss Rewash and gives a lovely, soft look.

Directions
1) Cut a piece of Watercolor Paper to 2 3/4 x 3 3/4".
2) Ink up the tree image with VersaMark Ink and stamp on the piece of Watercolor Paper.
3) Sprinkle on Clear Stampin' Emboss Powder and tap off excess.
4) Heat image until the powder is completely melted and shiny.
5) Squeeze the pad lid against the pad to get a puddle of ink in the lid of the Bashful Blue Ink Pad.
6) Pick up some ink with the Aqua Painter and watercolor all over the piece of Watercolor Paper. Apply more ink as needed. Clean the Aqua Painter by scribbling on scrap paper until no color comes off.
7) Squeeze the pad lid against the pad to get a puddle of ink in the lid of the Crumb Cake Ink Pad.
8) Pick up some ink with the Aqua Painter and paint over the trunk and branches of the tree image. Clean the Aqua Painter by scribbling on scratch paper.
9) Squeeze the pad lid against the pad to get a puddle of ink in the lid of the Garden Green Ink Pad.
10) Pick up some ink with the Aqua Painter and paint over the base of the image where grass would be and over the top of the tree. Add more color as needed. Clean the Aqua Painter.
11) Squeeze the pad lid against the pad to get a puddle of ink in the lid of the Marina Mist Ink Pad.
12) Paint over the areas of the image where you want the blue to be darker and to blend the colors together. Clean the Aqua Painter.
13) Set the watercolored image aside to let it dry.
14) Cut a piece of Very Vanilla Card Stock to 3 7/8 x 5 1/8".
15) Get some Certainly Celery Ink on a Sponge Dauber and lightly swirl the color onto the bottom inch of the vanilla rectangle. Reink the dauber as needed.
16) Get a clean Sponge Dauber and ink it up with Bashful Blue Ink. Lightly swirl the color onto the top, left edge, and right edge of the vanilla rectangle.
17) Cut a piece of Certainly Celery Card Stock to 4 x 5 1/4".
18) Adhere the colored vanilla rectangle to the celery rectangle.
19) Cut a piece of Bashful Blue Card Stock to 5 1/2 x 8 1/2". Score and fold in half to make card.
20) Adhere the vanilla and celery rectangle to the card front.
21) Cut a piece of Bashful Blue Card Stock to 3 1/4 x 3 7/8".
22) Punch one long side of the blue rectangle with the Scallop Edge Border Punch.
23) If your watercolored image is dry, adhere it to the scalloped blue rectangle.
24) Adhere a piece of Certainly Celery 1/8" Taffeta Ribbon to the rectangle so it hides the bottom seam between the Watercolor Paper and the blue card stock.
25) Adhere the watercolored image to the card front on the left side using Stampin' Dimensionals.
26) Stamp the sentiment in Marina Mist Ink on a scrap of Bashful Blue Card Stock.
27) Punch the sentiment out with the 1-3/4" x 7/8" Oval Large Punch.
28) Punch a scrap of Certainly Celery Card Stock with the Scallop Oval Extra-Large Punch.
29) Adhere the sentiment oval to the scallop oval and then to the card front with a Stampin' Dimensional on the right edge.
30) Tie a small piece of ribbon around the ribbon on the main image and trim ends.
Tips
You want to use Watercolor Paper for this technique as you will be getting the paper very wet with the watercoloring. Watercolor Paper will not tear and pill when it gets really wet.
The Watercolor Paper may curl up a bit while it is wet, but as it dries, it will flatten back out.
You don't have to use Powder Pals when heat embossing, but I highly recommend them. They help control where the powder goes and make it much easier to return the excess the container.
Make sure you don't overheat your embossed image. Also make sure that you are using fresh Stampin' Emboss Powder. The powder can get old and won't melt properly then. If your powder doesn't melt properly or you overheat it, then it won't resist the ink color as you watercolor.
Clean Sponge Daubers by running them under water in the sink and allowing them to air dry.
