Basic Directions
1) Choose two matching pieces of On Board Merry Medley chipboard and remove them from the sheets of chipboard.
2) Use the sanding block from the Distressing Essentials kit to sand off the little nubs that held the chipboard pieces in place.
3) Use a Marker in a color that coordinates with the Designer Paper you'll be using to color the edges of the chipboard pieces by running one edge of the brush tip of the Marker around the entire chipboard piece.
4) Lay the piece of chipboard on the back side of a piece of Designer Paper and trace it with the writing tip of the Marker. Use the Paper Snips to cut the paper out just inside the edges of the traced shape. If you are making the scallop circle bookmark, you can use the 2-3/8" Scallop Circle Punch to just punch out the pieces of paper.
5) Repeat step 4 three times so that you have four pieces of Designer Paper so you can cover both sides of both pieces of chipboard.
6) Cut a piece of coordinating color Satin Ribbon about 7" long.
7) Use Sticky Strip to adhere the ends of the ribbons to the back sides of the chipboard pieces so you have one piece of chipboard on each end of the ribbon.
8) Put Anywhere Glue Stick all over the back of one piece of Designer Paper.
9) Adhere the paper to the chipboard making sure that the edges line up as closely as possible. If using Rhinestone Brads, you might want to adhere them to the paper first, see the specific directions for each bookmark below.
10) Repeat steps 8 and 9 with all pieces of Designer Paper and all sides of the chipboard pieces.
11) Roll the Brayer across all the pieces to remove any air bubbles trapped between the chipboard and the paper and to really stick the paper down good.
12) Trim off excess Designer Paper as necessary using Paper Snips. Then, use the precision files, emery board, and sanding block from the Distressing Essentials kit to file off any more excess paper and distress the edges.
13) Cut two small pieces of Magnet Sheet using the Craft & Rubber Scissors. Make sure the pieces are the same shape and size.
14) Peel off the protective backing on one piece of Magnet Sheet and adhere it to the back side of one of the chipboard pieces.
15) Lay the other Magnet Sheet piece on top of the first so the magnetism is holding them together.
16) Peel the protective backing off and press the back side of the other chipboard piece to it. Make sure to line the two pieces of chipboard up.
17) Decorate the front of your bookmark as desired.
Pink Grateful Heart Bookmark
Uses Beau Chateau Designer Series Paper and Pretty in Pink 5/8" Satin Ribbon.
1) Cut a piece of Pink Piroutte Card Stock to 1-3/4" square.
2) Stamp the sentiment from Pursuit of Happiness in Soft Suede Ink along the top.
3) Cut a piece of Soft Suede Card Stock to 1/2" x 1 3/4".
4) Punch one long side of the Soft Suede strip with the Pinking Hearts Border Punch.
5) Use the 2-Way Glue Pen to adhere the punch strip below the sentiment.
6) Adhere the sentiment square to the front of the bookmark.
Paisley Butterfly Bookmark
Uses Paisley Petals Designer Series Paper and Bashful Blue 5/8" Satin Ribbon.
1) Ink up just the words "just be happy" from the sentiment in the Pursuit of Happiness Set using the Always Artichoke and Bravo Burgundy Markers.
2) Stamp the sentiment on a scrap of Very Vanilla Card Stock.
3) Use Paper Snips to trim the sentiment out and cut a notch in the end.
4) Adhere the strip to the center of one of the pieces of Designer Paper cut out in the butterfly shape before adhering it to the chipboard.
5) Use the Paper-Piercing Tool and Mat Pack pieces to poke a hole in the designer paper at the end of the sentiment.
6) Insert a pumpkin Circle Fire Rhinestone Brad and secure on the back side by folding the prongs flat.
7) Adhere the designer paper to the chipboard as described above.
House Party Bookmark
Uses Big Top Birthday Designer Series Paper and Real Red 5/8" Satin Ribbon
1) Stamp the sentiment from the Pursuit of Happiness Set in Real Red Ink on the bottom of one of the house shaped cut outs of designer paper before adhering it to the chipboard.
2) Use the Paper-Piercing Tool and Mat Pack pieces to poke a hole in the designer paper at the top of the house shape.
3) Insert a pumpkin Square Fire Rhinestone Brad and secure on the back side by folding the prongs flat.
4) Adhere the designer paper to the chipboard as described above.
Scallop Circle Flowers Bookmark
Uses Berry Blossoms Designer Series Paper and Certainly Celery 5/8" Satin Ribbon
1) Use the 2-3/8" Scallop Circle Punch to punch out 4 pieces of Designer Paper rather than tracing and hand cutting them.
2) Ink up just the words "be happy" from the stamp in the Pursuit of Happiness Set with the Lucky Limeade and Calypso Coral Markers from the 2011-2013 In Color Stampin' Write Markers.
3) Stamp the sentiment on a scrap of Whisper White Card Stock.
4) Use Paper Snips to trim the sentiment out and cut a notch in the end.
5) Adhere the sentiment to the front of the bookmark so the right edge hangs off just a bit.
6) Use the Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer punch to punch a solid flower from a scrap of Wisteria Wonder Card Stock.
7) Use the Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer punch to punch a cutout flower from a scrap of Calypso Coral Card Stock.
8) Use the 2-Way Glue Pen to adhere the cutout flower to the center of the solid flower.
9) Use the Paper-Piercing Tool and Mat Pack pieces to poke a hole in the center of the flower.
10) Insert a lilac Circle Ice Rhinestone Brad and secure on the back side by folding the prongs flat.
11) Adhere the flower to the front of the bookmark using Stampin' Dimensionals so it overlaps the left side of the sentiment.
Tips
I like to keep some scissors just for cutting Sticky Strip. That way I don't get my good scissors all gummed up and dull.
The Bravo Burgundy, Always Artichoke, and Soft Suede Markers will only be available for purchase as individual markers while supplies last or until May 31, whichever comes first. After that, you can still get these markers, but only as part of a color family collection or the Many Marvelous Markers Set.
The retiring Designer Series Papers, 5/8" Satin Ribbons, On Board Merry Medley chipboard, Rhinestone Brads, Distressing Essentials kit, Mat Pack, Pinking Hearts Border Punch, and Blossom Bouquet Triple Layer Punch are only available while supplies last or until May 31, whichever comes first.
The Paper Cutter and Paper-Piercing Tool are both being retired in their current configurations. These products are being reconfigured in improved forms and will be available again in the new forms in the new catalog effective June 1. If you really prefer the current configurations, please be sure to order the Paper Cutter or Paper-Piercing Tool as soon as you can. Since these are retiring and are accessories, they will only be available while supplies last or until May 31, whichever comes first.
The Magnet Sheets are, unfortunately, already sold out and are no longer available for purchase. You can substitute any heavy duty magnets or magnet sheets though.
Several of the retiring accessories are on sale through Stampin' Up! The sale price is shown next to the item name in the Supplies list.
